TroubleShooting

Got an error message?  Or something that suddenly doesn't work the way it always did before?

Don't panic.  This is the place.

You are probably not the first to see the problem. Usually the problem has been solved by the time you see it.

If so, you'll find your problem here.  If not, yours may be next.

1. Your Changes Disappear

Symptoms:

Suddenly TFW and GoFigure cannot seem to find one another.  Or, you make changes in TFW or GoFigure and your changes disappear.  Or, TFW reads your GoFigure, but an old GoFigure, not the GoFigure you just changed.

Solution:

Did you recently move to a Windows Vista computer?  Here's how you tell Windows Vista not to do you any favors without asking.

2. Payments Incomplete

Symptoms:

You send credit card or check payments over the Internet, but all come back Incomplete.  This worked yesterday and last week and last month.

Solution:

Probably an Internet Interruption.  See if your Internet is working.  If so, payments may work next time you try.

Think your Internet is working because you're getting your emails like always?  Payments use the Internet differently than your email does.  More security, for one thing.  Your Internet connection might work for one thing but not for the other.

Did you install new security software, or get an automatic security update from Microsoft?  Anti-virus protection?  Identity-theft protection?  All-in-one protection?

New security is like a new watchdog.  You have to teach it who your friends are.  At first, it barks at everyone.  Your security software may be blocking your payments when you try to send them over the Internet.  Find its Program settings (where you tell it the programs you use and trust).  Tell it TFW is your friend.  Or tell it to warn you when it blocks something.  Or turn it off for ten minutes.

3. Keeps Installing Every Time

Symptoms:

When you start TFW, a window pops up and says "Installing...."  Or, "Feature Missing," and "Please insert your CD...."

Or, you get a message "Cannot find TFW database..." or "Cannot find System.EnterpriseServices.Wrapper.dll".

Solution:

In short, this seems to come down to:
  • incomplete or corrupt installation of Microsoft .NET 2 framework or Windows XP SP2;
  • or, putting new software on an old computer that has a long history of different uses;
  • or, scar tissue in Windows from a long history of use, or from Registry Optimizers;

Microsoft packages Install-On-Demand into your desktop icon, and Install-On-Demand can be thrown off by  unrelated programs you install or partially install.

  • delete desktop icon
  • replace it with a shortcut to c:\Program Files\Cerium\TFW Payments\tfw020.exe
    • right click tfw020.exe,
    • Create Shortcut,
    • drag shortcut to desktop,
    • rename shortcut TFW Members,
    • to select an Icon, right click shortcut, select Properties, Change Icon

4. Changes to Your TFW Settings Disappear

Symptoms:

You change settings in TFW, but the changes don't stay.

Solution:

Look at your security software.  On Windows, security software meddles in all sorts of things now.  Your security software may block changes to the Windows Registry if it considers them worrisome.  That's where TFW stores settings.
