Suspend Membership (Hold)

Suspend scheduled member payments for a time.

Member Central: Hold

Use this for a number a reasons, not just a medical issue that keeps a member from working out (medical hold).

Advantage: A Hold does not expire automatically.  End Hold Date goes into your notes, but the software does not make use of the End Hold Date.  The end date of a Hold changes too often anyhow.  Instead, you'll see the Hold while you collect scheduled member payments (drafts).  Payments for a member on Hold come due on schedule, and are posted to Payments Due.  They won't process, however.  You won't mistakenly charge a member on Hold. The held payment reminds you of the member on Hold, and the cost of that Hold.  Each time a scheduled payment comes due, you'll look again at the Hold and end it if you can.

When you put a membership on Hold, a message reminds you: "Return here to end this Hold.  A Hold does not end automatically."

Examples:

  • Medical issue prevents member from attending
  • A seasonal transfer, a snowbird who goes South in Winter and returns in Spring.
  • An employee, who gets free membership.   Don't change her agreement, just suspend her scheduled payments.
  • Instead of a refund equivalent to a membership payment.
  • As a free month prize (although you might prefer the way shown in Promotions and Prizes).
  • When changing Day To Pay: Change Payment Schedule throughout a member payment schedule.
